Chapter 6: Generous Giving

“And a poor widow came and put in two small copper coins, which are worth a penny. ‘…this poor widow has put in more than all those who are contributing to the treasury. For all of them contributed out of their abundance; but she out of her poverty…’”
--Mark 12: 42b-44a

“There was a rich man… and at his gate lay a poor man… the poor man died… the rich man died… ‘remember that during your lifetime you received your good things…’”
--Luke 16: 19-31

“For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”
--Matthew 6:21

Like many Americans, I’ve been blessed with many material possessions. Because I’ve had more than enough, Bible verses on money like those above have especially convicted me. But this conviction was not immediate; it has come over a period of years.

I “packed my bags for my first guilt trip on giving” back in the 1980’s during a discussion at a friend’s party before going to Putting on the Ritz, a gala event hosted by the local Chamber of Commerce. To read the rest of this chapter, you will now need to buy my book, Simple Faith, Mighty Faith, published by Cornhusker Press and released 7-3-2011. Go to my website, http://www.JerriHaussler.com for ordering details. Thank you!

Thoughts to Ponder/Points for Discussion
1. How easy or how difficult is it for you to give from the heart instead of the purse?
2. What is your biggest stumbling block to trusting that God will always give you enough?
