Chapter 15: Love One Another

“This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you.”

For years, my sister Jodi had been inviting me to travel with her to San Francisco to visit her son Matt and his life partner Jay. I always found excuses not to go along; that is, until April, 2009. Because of a personal situation, Jodi was unemployed, but would soon need to find a job to support herself. That meant that another opportunity to accompany her to California might never occur. Because of this, and because Jodi had flown with me to North Carolina that February to visit my daughter and her family, I felt I should go. I also had earned free flight miles on the United Rewards Program® and we always had fun together, so (although, I was a bit homophobic), I really had no excuse.
