Chapter 13: The Man and the Birds

“And the Word became flesh and lived among us,

and we have seen His glory,

the glory as of a father’s only son, full of grace and truth…

No one has ever seen God. It is God the only Son,

who is close to the Father’s heart, who has made Him known.”

--John 1: 14, 18

“Let the same mind be in you that was in Christ Jesus…

taking the form of a slave, being born in human likeness.

And being found in human form, he humbled himself…”

--Philippians 2: 5, 7b, 8

On February 28, 2009, I awoke to a National Public Radio announcement that News Commentator Paul Harvey had died. Since my father used to listen to his daily newscast and I first became acquainted with him as a teenager, I had been a big Paul Harvey fan. I loved his deep voice, ideally suited for the radio. He was a source of strength and hope in a troubled world and had that perfect blend of seriousness and humor in his fifteen-minute broadcast which made most any tragedy seem more palatable.

Because of my work schedule, I listened to Paul Harvey sporadically during the weekday noon hour while at Hastings College. But when I quit working in 2002, I hardly ever missed his broadcast—and especially loved his Saturday program, when he usually spoke about a topic in more detail or added a bit more narrative...

To read the rest of this chapter, you will now need to buy my book, Simple Faith, Mighty Faith, published by Cornhusker Press and released 7-3-2011. Go to my website, http://www.JerriHaussler.com for ordering details. Thank you!

Thoughts to Ponder/Points for Discussion

  1. What life-changing event can you think of that may have influenced your belief in Jesus?

  1. How will you pass the message of Jesus and His love on to others in your sphere of influence?
