“Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances;
for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.”
--1 Thessalonians 5: 16-18
“Do not worry about anything, but in everything by prayer and
supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.”
--Philippians 4: 6
Whether inside or outside, I ride a bike at least three times a week for 35 minutes to an hour. I’ve done this exercise for my health since 1996, when I trained for and rode in The (Des Moines) Register’s Annual Great Bike Ride Across Iowa (RAGBRAI). I was 50.
Since biking can get boring, especially downstairs on my AirDyne®, I spend much of the time while I’m riding in prayer. It makes the time go more quickly and when I’m done riding, I usually have a good feeling and have a better, God-filled day. I also spend time in prayer while I’m driving my car. I drive to see my mother every five days or so. She lives about 45 minutes away at Rosewood Court, an assisted living facility, and I spend much of my time on Interstate 80 with God.
My faith in God is a very important part of who I am...

Thoughts to Ponder/Points for Discussion
- Do you have a certain formal prayer you say or a special order in the way you say your personal prayers?
- What changes do you need to make in your prayer life to make it more fulfilling?
