the earth was a formless void
and darkness covered the face of the deep,
while a wind from God swept over the face of the waters.”
--Genesis 1: 1
“All scripture is inspired by God and is useful for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, so that everyone who belongs to God may be proficient, equipped for every good work.”
--1Timothy 3:16-17
While writing my Simple Faith devotional, I stumbled upon the book, The Darwin Conspiracy by John Darnton. A fictionalized story about Charles Darwin’s life, it is a mystery that was both entertaining and thought-provoking. The book attempts to explain the two decade interlude between the time that Darwin came up with his theory of evolution and when he actually published The Origin of Species in 1859. It informed me and started me on a quest for more information about the subject matter.
On a Saturday evening just as I finished reading The Darwin Conspiracy, my husband Dee and I attended the Hastings Community Theatre performance of Shadowlands by William Nicholson. This was a love story about C.S. Lewis and Joy (Davidman) Gresham set in mid-1950 in Oxford, England in the context of Lewis’s Christian philosophy...

Thoughts to Ponder/Points for Discussion
- How did your school or the church you attended influence your thinking about evolution and/or creationism?
- Do you think it really matters if God created the first man and woman or if we evolved from an earlier life form? Thinking about each, how would you live your life any differently?
